Concert goers and rugby fans heading towards and away from Christchurch, Dunedin or Invercargill at the weekend need to build in a little extra time as families will also be heading home at the end of the school holidays.

State Highway 1 between Invercargill and Christchurch is likely to be busy leading into and over the weekend with a Highlanders game in Invercargill and Black Sabbath in Dunedin Saturday night. Iron Maiden is playing in Christchurch Friday night in Addington.

The Transport Agency has one road work site on SH1 in Oamaru with the speed restricted to 30 km/h.

“Don’t underestimate the importance of taking regular breaks or sharing the driving where possible,” said Lee Wright, Transport Agency Journey Manager. “We want everyone to get home safely and enjoy these games and concerts.”
