Public engagement will form a key element of the Northern Corridor Investigation phase. The Transport Agency will act in a transparent manner, keep stakeholders informed throughout the project, listen to and acknowledge concerns and aspirations.consultation – June 2016

The project team is committed to talking with local businesses and residents and informing the wider community at key milestones during the project, to ensure the development of plans takes all viewpoints into account. The Transport Agency will also regularly provide feedback on how stakeholder input influenced our decisions.

Public consultation – June-July 2016

In June 2016 the Transport Agency was able to announce it had completed its two year investigation, planning and business case process, including gaining approval from its board for the overall draft alignment plan (an output of the final Detailed Business Case (DBC).

The draft alignment plan confirms which previous option/s shown in earlier consultations have now been approved to proceed into the resource consenting phase.
This new phase involves the project team working in 2016-17 on consenting documentation, and lodging with the Environmental Protection Authority. At the same time, the team is also finalising more indepth design and engineering plans that consider safety, engineering and construction requirements.

In particular, this consultation wasis focused on seeking feedback on these detailed topics:

  • Urban design ideas – the Northern Corridor runs through both residential and industrial areas, several nature feature sites, and follows the Northwest Wildlink corridorcorridor. Now’s a great time to start gathering urban design themes you’d like to see incorporated;
  • An additional bus station – our partner Auckland Transport is investigating adding a bus station on thethe  new Busway extension, with Park & Ride options, in the Rosedale area.at Rosedale. This station would service a major employment area. The community was askedWe want to know what benefits and issues they sawyou see with this location, and where they’dyou’d like to see bus services come from/go toto;
  • Walking and cycling – we’ve confirmed our project includes a high quality shared path that will run alongside SH1 and SH18 and link into a wide range of other cycle routes. This consultation asked the community where they’dWe’re now keen to know what places/locations you’d like to see road/path access points be built. • More focused investigations- - on a local road connection for the Unsworth Heights community. The project team isWe’re still investigating whether a local road bridge at Unsworth Drive would improve connectivity for local residents. The Transport Agency will not proceed with this bridge ifThere’s still a lot of safety and traffic concerns cannotflow analysis to be addressed in the design. Public consultation – August-September 2015

In August 2015 the short listed design plan option/s from the project’s Indicative Business Case (IBC) were announced for further community consultation and feedback. The public submission period for feedback on these designs closed on 18 September 2015. A brochure outlining the plans and asking for feedback on specific design aspects was mailed to households and businesses around the wider project area, local stakeholder groups and property owners were invited to one on one meetings, six open day events were held in different locations, and an online form was made available for the public to send in.

More than 1200 people had their say during this period, either visiting us at one of our six events, phoning, emailing or dropping by our Infohub office.

In particular, this consultation focused on inviting feedback on several specific topics:

  • The multiple options still being considered for several local road changes required when Upper Harbour Highway is upgraded to full motorway status – this included options for new bridges and/or underpasses to ensure community connectivity.
  • The design of the Busway extension, walking and cycling path access points, and possible new station options.
  • A proposal for over 5kms of walking and cycling paths around the two motorways, and an additional 25kms of connecting paths all around the area.

This consultation was held in partnership with Auckland Transport to progress ideas and consult on all these aspects. Community feedback received during this period is being combined with other stakeholder feedback and further technical analysis to help inform our final design plans to be tabled later this year.

Joint transport consultation – July 2015

You may have also seen our team out and about supporting Auckland Transport at several New Network bus route consultation events on the North Shore in July 2015. At these events our team helped to explain how the proposed new bus routes would benefit from the Northern Busway extension being scoped in our project. You can view an archived copy of Auckland Transport’s New Network information and our supporting flyer from these events below.

Auckland Transport will report back to the community on its new network over the next few months. The NZ Transport Agency will combine the Busway extension feedback received with the results of our next September 2015 consultation to help inform our final design plans to be tabled later this year.

Initial public consultation – November 2014

In 2014 the initial range of multiple options proposed for the Northern Corridor project and Busway were announced and discussed with stakeholders, iwi, local businesses and residents and the wider community at a series of public events. More than 500 submissions were made and this feedback along with further detailed analysis and geotechnical work was used to help the project team further narrow down the options put forward in 2015.
