The NZ Transport Agency welcomes feedback from the community on proposals to reduce the legal speed limits approaching the Kaukapakapa Village. The Transport Agency has been requested by the local community to formally review the legal speed limits approaching the village from both North and South. The formal review undertaken by the Transport Agency supports the proposed lower speed limits as being both safe and appropriate for people living and travelling along this road.
Consultation will take place between 3 July 2017 - 30 July 2017 .
There are three proposals to reduce legal speed limits approaching Kaukapakapa Village:
Proposed change 1 – SH16 North of Kaukapakapa Village
A proposed new speed limit for SH16 of 80km/h starting from 160m north of North Crescent and finishing at 95m west of Kanohi Road. The proposed 80km/h is a reduction from the current legal limit of 100km/h through this section of road. This speed limit is required to connect development at Moses Road to Kaukapakapa and to ensure that turning on and off the state highway along this stretch can be negotiated safely.
Proposed change 2 – SH16 South of Kaukapakapa Village
A proposed new speed limit of 50km/h from the current 50km/h zone extended for a further 270m south east of Opoto Road. The proposed 50km/h extension is a reduction from the current legal limit of 100km/h. This speed limit is required to include the access to the Fire Station in the 50km/h zone and terminate the speed limit at the end of the existing flush medium.
Proposed change 3 – SH16 South to 115m west of Henley Road
A proposed new speed limit of 80km/h from 270m south east of Opoto Road through to 115m west of Henley Road. The proposed 80km/h is a reduction from the current legal limit of 100km/h. This speed limit is required to connect the developments at Kahikatea Flat, Peak and Henley Roads to Kaukapakapa.
